Background:
Bhavnagar was founded by Bhavsinhji Gohil, the ruler of Sihor in 1723 AD, a city near the coast.
Due to the raids from the Marathas, Bhavsinhji shifted his capital from Sihor to Bhavnagar, keeping in mind the Sea trade that could be benefited from.
The last princely ruler Late Sir Krishna Kumar Singhji handed this state to the people's representative, on Gandhiji's advice, in 1948.
