Background:
Located in eastern Gujarat, Vadodra or Baroda is an ancient city dating back to 812 AD, when it was called Vadapadraka.
It got its name Vadodra in 1971 after being called Chandanavati, Varhavati, Vatpatraka etc.
It has been ruled by different rulers right from Mughal emperors and later became the capital of the princely State of the Maratha rulers, the Gaekwads, before the independence. It then became a part of the state of Gujarat.
