Background:
The ancient city of Gwalior has been ruled by many dynasties until 1885, when Jiyaji Rao Scindia took it over.
Named after a the 8th century legendary saint Gwalipa who cured the then chieftain Suraj Sen of a deadly disease, Gwalior, the hometown of the legendary singer Tansen, is now a modern Indian city known for its temples, palaces, monuments and educational institutions.

Air: Gwalior Airport is conencted with Delhi, Bhopal, Indore and Mumbai.
Rail: Gwalior is on the Delhi - Chennai and Delhi - Mumbai line on the Central Railways and has daily trains from Delhi and Agra.
Road: NH 3 (Agra - Gwalior - Shivpuri - Indore - Dhule - Nasik - Thane - Mumbai), NH 75 (Gwalior - Jhansi - Chhatarpur - Rewa-Renukut - Garwa - Daltonganj - Ranchi) and NH 92 (Bhongaon - Etawah - Gwalior) are the National Highways passing through Gwalior.
Gwalior is well connected by roads and has with regular bus services to Agra, Mathura, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Bhopal, etc.
