Background:
Bhopal, the Capital of Madhya Pradesh, is built over the 11th century city of Bhojapal, built by King Bhoja.
The founder of the present city was Dost Mohammad, a Afghan soldier who came here from Delhi some time in 1720's.
Bhopal has now two parts, the Old Bhopal, which has marketplace, mosques and palaces and New Bhopal, which is a modern well planned side of the city with broad roads, parks and gardens.

Road: NH 12 (Jabalpur - Bhopal - Khilchipur - Aklera - Jhalawar - Kota - Bundi - Devli - Tonk - Jaipur) and NH 86 (Kanpur - Chhatarpur - Sagar - Bhopal - Dewas) are the National Highways passing through Bhopal.
Bhopal is well connected with other important Indian cities by road and has taxi and regular bus service from places like Indore, Khajuraho, Ujjain and Jabalpur.
