Background:
Earlier known as Chitrakut, Chittorgarh was named after a local Rajput Chief, Chitrang.
It was the capital of local Sisodia clan of the Rajputs from 8th century to 16th century and was invaded thrice by the Muslims killing many Rajput soldiers.
In 1568, Akbar finally took siege of Chittorgarh, but was returned back to its rulers by Jahangir in 1616.

Chittorgarh Fort
Location: 180-meter high on a hill
Covering 700 acres, the famous fort of Chittorgarh houses ruins of many temples and palaces.
Kirti Stambha
Location: Inside the fort
The Kirti Stamba is dedicated to Adinath who was the first of the 24 Jain Trithankaras.
Meera Bai Temple
It is a famous temple where Meerabai worshipped Lord Krishna.
Vijay Stambh - The Victory Tower
This 9-storyed tower was built in 1440 AD by Maharana Kumbha to commemorate his victory over Mohamed Khilji. There are more than 150 steps to the top from where one can get a beautiful view of the town.
