Chamba

Famous for:
It is famous for its medival temples and museums, handicraft, embroidery work, leather chappals and sandals. It is also famous for its hot chili sauce known as "chukh", which is a mixture of green and red peppers, lime juice.

Chamba region was a beautiful Princely state with the altitude ranging from 600 to 6500 meters.

Situated here, at an altitude of 900 meters on the bank of River Ravi is the town of Chamba. It was founded and named by Raja Sahil Verman in the 9th century.
The Mughals and the Sikh ruled the region and later the British took over, before it became a part of the state of Himachal Pradesh, after India became independent in 1947.
The entire Chamba region is known for beautiful valleys, meadows, rivers, lakes and springs and Chamba town is known for Shiva and VIshnu temples ans is quite famous amongst trekkers.

Air: The Gaggal Airport (170 km) in Kangra is the nearest Airport. Chamba can be reached here by Buses and Taxis.
Railway: Pathankot (118 km) has the nearest railway. Busses and Taxis to Chamba are available from the Railway Station.
Road: NH 20 (Punjab, Himachal Pradesh) is the nearest National Highway. There are regular bus service from Pathankot (6 hours),
Dharamshala (10 hours), Khajjiar (1½ hours) and Dalhousie (2 hours).
