Background:
Aizawl, the scenic capital of Mizoram, does not have a very old past.
It is the largest city of the Mizoram state and is also a religious and cultural center of the Mizos.
Despite it being quite remote, it is quite popular with tourists and is famous for its tribal culture, handicrafts and exotic natural beauties.

What to see:
Mizoram State Museum
Location: On the Mc Donald hill in the town center.
A small museum with interesting collection of historical relics, traditional items, tribal costumes and artifacts.
The Museum is open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday 9 am to 1 pm.
Mini Zoo
Location: Near the city center.
Has birds and animals found in Mizoram and surrounding region.
Bara Bazaar
Location: City center
This is the main shopping center with stalls selling different items like garments, foodstuff etc. A good place to see traditionally dressed locals.
Berawtlang Tourist Complex
Location: 7 km from Aizawl city.
A recreational tourist center with restaurants, shops, tourist cottages etc.
Durtlang Hills
Location: Outside the Aizawl city.
Beautiful hills offering good view of the Aizwal city.
Luangmual Handicraft Center
Location: 7 km from Aizawl city.
Luangmual is known for handicrafts and 'Khumbeu', the ceremonial bamboo hat.
Bung and Paikhai
Location: 15 km and 16 km respectively from Aizawl.
Beautiful picnic spots on hills. Buses and taxis are available from Aizwal to go to these places.

Tamdil Lake
Location: 85 km from Aizawl city.
Tamdil Lake, is the largest natural lake in Mizoram. Surrounded by forest, it is a good picnic spot with boating facilities.
Vantawng Falls
Location: 142 km from Aizawl city.
Vantawng Falls is the highest and breathtakingly beautiful waterfall in Mizoram.
Champhai
Location: 192 km from Aizawl
Champhai is a busy commercial town and an important agriculture and sericulture center. It also has a great view of Myanmar hills.
Phawngpui
Location: 300 km from Aizawl
Phawngpui means 'Blue Mountains' is located at the height of 2165 m and is open only to trekkers and hikers. It has amazing flowers, orchids, medicinal herbs etc.

Reaching there:
Air: Aizawl's Lengpui Airport has regular flights from Kolkatta (2 hours flight time), Guwahati and Imphal.
Rail: Silchar Railway station in Assam (180 km) is the closest railway station. Silchar to Aizawl by bus takes about 8 hours and by car it takes about 6 hours. Guwahati Railway station (526 km) is however more convenient since it is better connected with other cities and town of India. Bairabi (130 km) is another nearby railway station.
Road: NH 54 (Silchar - Aizawl - Tuipang) is the National Highway passing through Aizawl. Aizawl is well connected by road with other cities and towns of the region via Silchar. Daily bus services are also available between Aizawl and Silchar and between Aizawl - Guwahati, Shillong via Silchar.
