Background:
There are many stories with regards to founding of the Kasauli hill-station. Some believe it was founded by some Rajputs who had fled from Rewari (Haryana) way back in the 17th century and settled down by the flowing spring of fresh water. Over the years, that village became Kasauli. While others believe it has derived its name from Kushmawali or Kusmali, meaning the flower maiden, since there is abundance of flowers in Kasauli in autumn.
Sir Henry Lawrence was the first Britisher to settle in Kasauli. His cottage called "Sunny Side" built in 1848, still exists. He had even built the Lawrence School.
Kasauli is very famous for its natural beauty, its flowers, forest and animals. People enjoy long walks here and it is one of the favorite hill stations of people from Northern Region.
