Background:
Almora is a very beautiful hill station in the Kumaon Himalayas and one of the few places that was not founded and established by the British. It is the district capital with all the aminities for tourists.
It was the ancient capital of the Chand dynasty that ruled the region about 400 year ago.
It is very famous amongst the Indian as well as tourists from abroad for its great view of the snow covered Himalayas, temples, cottages in lovely surroundings and thickly wooded forests with streams, rivers & lakes.
It is also known for the trekking routes around the region.

What to see:
Apart from having beautiful scenery and views of the surrounding Himalayas, Almora is also known for its temples. Some of the temple in and around Almora are;

Doonagiri Temple
It is known for the temple of Goddess Durga, which has great view of the surrounding valleys.

Jageshwar
Location: 34 km from Almora
It has one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India in its temple complex consisting of 124 temples with many statues. It is also known for the fair that is held every year in the month of Shravan (July/August). The famous Mritola Ashram is about 10 km from here.

Reaching there:
Air: Pantnagar Airport (130 km) is the nearest airport to Almora.

Rail: Kathgodam Railway station (92 km) is the nearest railway station to Almora.

Road: Almora can be reached from Ranikhet and is well connected with different cities, towns and tourist destinations in Uttaranchal like Nainital, Kausani, etc.
